The statistics below provide an overview of the Board’s Findings and Recommendations (F&R) as well as the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) responses to those F&Rs over the last five years.

Board's Findings and Recommendations

Between 2007 and 2011, the Board issued F&Rs on 513 grievances of which 43.9% (225 cases) had recommendations to grant or partially grant the grievance.

The following graphic sets out the distribution in % of the Board`s recommendations by year. Between 2007 and 2011, the Board issued Findings and Recommendations (F&Rs) on 513 grievances of which 43.9% (225 cases) had recommendations to grant or partially grant the grievance and denied the grievance in 55.3% (284 cases). In 0.8% of cases that were referred for which the Board concluded that the matter was not grievable or the party had no right to grieve (e.g. a retired member of the Canadian Forces).

Chief of the Defence Staff Decisions

Of the 513 F&Rs issued by the Board, the CDS rendered 411 decisions. Of these, 171 decisions addressed cases where the Board had recommended that redress be granted or partially granted. The remaining 240 decisions addressed cases where the Board had recommended that redress be denied.

The following graphic illustrates the distribution of the CDS decisions in % on each of these two categories. Of the 513 Findings and Recommendations (F&Rs) issued by the Board, the CDS rendered 409 decisions. Of these, 170 decisions addressed cases where the Board had recommended that redress be granted or partially granted, the CDS agrees or partially agrees with the Board in 85% of the cases; the CDS does not agree with the Board in 14% and 1% were withdrawn at CDS Level . The remaining 239 decisions addressed cases the Board had recommended that redress be denied and the CDS agrees with the Board in 90% of the cases; the CDS does not agree with the Board in 4% and 6% of the cases were withdrawn at the CDS Level.
